South Shields boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the country from the golden sands of Little Haven and Sandhaven to the cliff protected sands of Marsden (hidden caves once used by smugglers) they all have something to offer everyone. The South Tyneside area is wonderful to explore whatever the time of year.  The pier at South Shields offers some wonderful fishing. The beaches are a Mecca for surfing enthusiasts. The luxury apartment is only 2 minutes from the parks and beaches. Marsden beach has one of the most fabulous rock formations being some 100+ feet in the country and home to hundreds of sea birds.

The hotel/bar/restaurant known as Marsden Grotto was once a cave and the  home of a homeless miner and his family who set up there after being evicted from their cottage and very enterprisingly began a business serving food and drink for anyone who would buy. We think his best customers were the smugglers!!

There are incredible views across the mouth of the Tyne where the cruise ships going to Holland and Norway can be seen sweeping their way up the river. Tynemouth Priory and Castle which stand out on the headland just over the river and easily seen used to be one of the most heavily fortified castles in England. It makes for a great day out as it has an Interactive exhibition going from its roots in Anglo Saxon Britain, then a monastery and Royal castle to its use during the 1st and2nd World Wars.

The area is awash with history, from the Roman fort on the Lawe top with its reconstructed grain stores and keep plus fabulous museum to the Catherine Cookson Museum and the famous Souter lighthouse, which was the first in the world to be lit by carbon arc lamps. Not forgetting that William Woodhave was credited with the invention of the lifeboat and a copy of his lifeboat can be seen adjacent to the Marine Park.

South Shields has wonderful parks and gardens, all within easy walking distance of this apartment. The Marine Park has a wonderful lake for boating and feeding the many swans and ducks. A miniature train takes visitors around the park to the delight of young and old alike!

South Shields has a good shopping centre and busting market. The Metro Centre is within easy driving distance or hop on the metro to cosmopolitan cities of Newcastle or Sunderland.

Breath-taking Northumberland, rich in culture, history and romance is a short drive. Pretty villages such as Warkworth, Blanchland, Corbridge and Amble and are just a few of the charming villages you can visit whilst staying with us. Alternatively travel South into Durham. Durham City and its medieval streets and Cathedral are a ‘must see’. Travel on from Durham into the former lead mining villages of Stanhope, Rookhope and others. The moors around Stanhope are breath-taking.
